Feniton History Group: Devon Map Links

In searching for something else, we came across this really nice blog posting on your website athttp://www.devonhistorysociety.org.uk/2015/01/ordnance-survey-maps-six-inch-england.html about the OS six-inch maps, so many thanks for this.

My real reason for writing was just to say that we have recently added all our holdings of the more detailed OS 25 inch to the mile maps of Devon (1855-1943) to our website too.

We are in the process of georeferencing the sheets too – at present the georeferenced coverage is just for south-east England at:http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=8&lat=51.4686&lon=0.0404&layers=176 but we hope to cover Devon too in the next month or so.

Reasonably enough, people don’t think of visiting the National Library of Scotland website for maps of southern England, so we are always keen to alert those that might be interested in case they can help spread the word.

About Us

In 2008 the Church organised a History Weekend called “The Feniton History Days”. This was a very successful event raising some £4,000 towards the church roof fund.

Sadly in October 2008 the church interior was destroyed by flooding, and now needs to raise funds to cover the cost of refurbishment not covered by the insurance.

In October 2009 Brenda Powell and Christine Gibbins decided to start a History Group for the village.

The aim of the group is to document the village’s past.

At our meetings we discuss any queries that come to hand. Any fund raising events we put on, profits will be passed to Feniton Church.

Thanks for the info. Starcross History http://starcrosshistory.blogspot.co.uk/ is researching maps.
BTW I came across your blog by searching the blogosphere for "History Devon UK" Glad to see that you are another inclusive history group which doesn't charge membership - folk have other things to spend a spare £10 on, and membership makes the group elitist.
